There is no greater pleasure than a warm bed in a cold room. So mark the night of Nov. 5-6 as my first use of the electric blanket this fall – a small milepost in the cycle of seasons, but big for me.
I’ve always preferred a cold bedroom. As a teen, I irritated Mom by sleeping with windows open, often possible in mild Pacific Northwest winters.
A move to frigid Nebraska and then marriage tested my approach. But I resisted electric blankets.
“I’m no winter wuss,” I declared. “No buzzing wires atop my bed.”
My wife remonstrated, repeatedly: “They don’t buzz, you ding-dong!”
So we compromised. I gave up open windows. She added another plain blanket to the bed.
Then we bought a used car, and to our surprise it had heated seats. And let me tell you, heated car seats are a gateway drug to electric blankets. My shivering wife soon got one for Christmas.
Now, a decade on, I continue to sacrifice each fall and winter. For her, of course.
Turn down that thermostat. Dial up the blanket.

“. . . heated car seats are a gateway drug to electric blankets.” LOL..
Try a heated mattress pad and a weighted blanket. Like hibernating. No finer sleep.
What a wimp!!!
Bill, I can always count on you to speak the truth.
Now, that’s devotion!
