I’ve always loved the song “I Can See Clearly Now” by Johnny Nash. Its positive vibe and lyrics are reassuring and speak to me mainly because I’ve had multiple vision issues since childhood.
I first got glasses in second grade when my teacher realized I couldn’t see the blackboard at school. I’ve made the journey from sparkly pink glasses to contact lenses in high school, and back to glasses in recent years.
In the past seven months, I’ve had two cornea procedures and two cataract surgeries. The second cataract surgery was just a week ago, so my vision is still in flux. But I can now see well at a distance without my spectacles. I’ll probably need reading glasses.
This is a life-changing moment for me, a time of fresh perspective and new possibility. I’m thankful for my skilled eye surgeon here in Louisiana. I’m also grateful for my ophthalmologist in North Carolina who gave me hope after years of dreading eye appointments.
I’m looking forward now and as the song says, “It’s gonna be a bright, bright, sunshiny day.”
