I tried very hard not to get it.
I always wore my most uncomfortable, nose-pinching mask. Not the cute cat one that would slip down, revealing too much.
That made me look like a maniacal pirate.
I sanitized my hands when we were supposed to, and kept bottles in my car, in every room of the house, near my phone and next to the cat box. One can’t be too careful.
I stayed away from infected people. (I’ve been warned about them since I was a teen. Those old-style infections sounded more fun to get.)
I avoided restaurants until we were told they were OK.
I never sneezed on anyone nor let anyone sneeze on me.
But then . . . I went to a literary party with – one supposes – people like me who were all vaccinated and boosted.
The next day, 10 of us came down with it.
Yes, it was mild. Just some cough and sniffles. I got retested. I stayed home for a week, fuming.
My name is Emily. I have had Covid. I do not approve.
