I lived in Shreveport-Bossier City long enough to cotton on to north Louisiana’s concern that it’s a stepchild to in-state neighbors farther south.
I’ve lived in Baton Rouge long enough to know that north Louisiana is right.
Folks in southern parishes don’t dislike north Louisiana. They simply don’t think about it. Or, when they do, they make laughably faulty assumptions.
As in: “Do y’all celebrate Mardi Gras up there?”
Uh … yeah.
“Crawfish?”
Y-e-a-a-a-h!
Think of south Louisiana as a much older sibling. A 20-year-old doesn’t dislike an infant sibling so much as have little interest in, understanding of, or time for the cherub.
“Oh, hey. A pink blob. Gotta go!”
Other states have similar issues. People in Nebraska’s panhandle occasionally threaten to secede. Eastern Washington feels put upon by dominant “westsiders.”
So, count me a missionary among the ignorant souls down south.
