Sweater weather

It’s November and the Lands’ End and LL Bean catalogs are arriving in the mail. They are filled with photos of cheerful folk wearing colorful cardigans and cozy winter coats. Heck, even the adorable Golden Retriever models are sporting festive holiday sweaters.

I’m ready to join in. I need more sweaters. I want more sweaters.

Oh, wait. I live in south Louisiana now. Not exactly the market for winter wear.

It’s my first autumn in this part of the country, and I’ve welcomed the cooler temperatures but it’s still in the 70s most afternoons. I’ve learned that if I throw on a classic cable knit sweater in the morning, I need to change by lunchtime because I’m too warm.

It’s difficult for this Midwestern girl who’s used to markedly cooler weather in the weeks leading up to Thanksgiving, if not sooner. One year, when we lived in Nebraska, it snowed on Halloween.

Now I know cooler weather is on the way and finally we’ll have sweater weather. I might even swap out my iced tea for hot cocoa.
