A scary mess lies just out of sight in your smartphone, and you made it – with your text messages.
I’ll show you. Please sit. We’ll need most of the day.
OK, open your messages app. Now scroll to the last message. Yes, the oldest.
I’ll wait.
Did you scroll far enough? Not yet? Keep scrolling. I’ll still wait. I have lots on today, but this task is important.
Still not done? Oh my. You do have a problem.
Or you, too. I’ve got my own pile of messages, as I found recently.
“I’ll delete these old messages,” I thought.
So I started deleting. And deleting. Minutes later, I paused. Tired of swiping left to delete, I thumb-scrolled to see how many remained.
I’d wrangled my thumb 29 times before I found the oldest – from 2018.
I saw and savored long-ago messages from friends. But I spied even more flotsam, including ancient texts with security codes and many others from vendors, doctors and scammers.
What a mess.
A text mess.
Now my thumb aches. I’ll tackle my text mess another day.

I won’t be offended if you delete me from time to time.
Thank you, Steve!
Don’t forget that no good deed is left unpunished: Now you have to go the deleted file and do it again.
Really? Daggammit.
