Griefstalgia for Choco Tacos

Oh, Choco Tacos. How I miss you.

We never met. I never spied you in a convenience store frozen food case. I never tasted your crunch-creamy delights.

And yet I miss you.

I learned of you only last week when your maker announced it would make you no more, apparently to focus on more profitable treats.

You’re so young! I survived just fine for your entire 39 years in ignorance of your cheap and processed sweetness.

Then news of your demise filled my social media feeds. I read praise for you, Choco Tacos. Remembrances. Disbelief. Skepticism about your maker’s vague explanation. And expressions of grief.

Crikey, you’re ice cream wrapped in a waffle cone shell to resemble an actual taco. Kinda silly, right?

And yet I miss you.

The Oxford English Dictionary has entries for 470,000 words. Alas, it needs one more – for that mixture of nostalgia and loss felt for something you never knew existed until it was gone.

Heart freeze? Griefstalgia?

Keep your faith, Choco Tacos. Another heartless manufacturer killed Twinkies in 2011. They returned four years later.
