In Dark Times

The murder last week of Renee Good by an ICE agent in Minneapolis, followed by baseless accusations and ridiculous claims by the Trump regime, is a blood-red stain on what we’ve become as a nation.

Yet her videotaped murder is just the latest atrocity by fascist gangsters who control our federal government. They’ve made ICE a masked Gestapo answerable to no one, deported people without due process, built prison camps across the country, and beaten, gassed and arrested U.S. citizens.

Not to mention the suicidal aggressiveness of their military actions, the spurning of NATO or the betrayal of Ukraine.

Might makes right. Billionaires rule. And the Supreme Court smiles like malevolent Buddhas. All we can do is resist.

J.R.R. Tolkein in his “Lord of the Rings” has Gandalf say: “It is not our part to master all the tides of the world, but to do what is in us for the succour of those years wherein we are set, uprooting the evil in the fields that we know.”

It’s what remains within us that causes concern. We’re in dark times.
