Men have a love/hate relationship with shaving. Many don’t shave at all. I have shaved every day since I was 16. By my count that’s more than 22,000 shaves.
If you’re going to shave, make it a pleasant task. I have used electric shavers, razors of every type and many brands of canned shaving cream. Nothing beats the old-fashioned brush and shaving-soap mug. It’s a pleasant trip back in time.
The hot, wet brush and silky-smooth foam feel delightful, and the five-blade razor glides smoothly across the slick surface of your face.
My grandfathers and my dad used the brush and mug; there were no canned shaving creams then. Now I have gone back to the old ways.
Each morning I step back 100 years and shave the way it was always done. It seems the old techniques are better in many ways. The present is often arduous, convoluted and sometimes ugly.
Experiencing a simpler time can be exhilarating and uplifting, even if it’s only for a 10-minute morning shave.
My old-fashioned mug and brush offer a pleasant daily flashback.
