A vanity card appears at the end of each episode of “The Big Bang Theory,” the 2007-2019 sitcom about childlike scientists and their equally odd friends. Most of the cards have a hundred or more words in tiny type, and they’re impossible to read in the second they flash on screen.
The last episode of Season 10 ends as Sheldon proposes to Amy, leaving viewers to wait for her answer. The vanity card appears a moment later, and its lone word is easily read: “Gratitude.”
I love “The Big Bang Theory,” so much so that it’s OK to worry about me. I’ve seen most episodes multiple times. I know the characters are make-believe, yet they’re my friends. Call for help. Please.
I re-watched the proposal episode last night, hours before Thanksgiving. The closing message – “Gratitude” – spoke to me. It also saved me, because I’d blown my deadline for today’s essay.
Thanks for reminding us, “Big Bang,” that the giving thanks part of Thanksgiving is what makes the holiday worth observing.
Because, wow. We need more gratitude.
Happy Give Thanks Day.
