Each of us has favorite smells and aromas. They can range from expensive florals to my mom’s shrimp dip, from exquisite to downright vulgar.
Here are just two of my favorites. The first is a strong, even narcotic scent, while the second is subtle and unfamiliar to most.
When spring progresses in Nebraska, you’re lucky if you reside near a bank of lilacs. When their small, clustered, purple flowers fully bloom, the entire neighborhood fills with a strong floral and even melodic aroma.
Clipped and taken inside, bunched lilacs assure your dwelling is sweetly and beautifully perfumed.
Every cat has a subtly different aroma. Cats’ smells are emitted most strongly while they’re purring. Sure, their foundation is a species-wide, acrid musk. But floating above are subtle and individualized scents.
The late Pirate had a hint of buttered popcorn, while Andre the Great, his successor, has a touch of malt whiskey. Even Pete the Feral, my muskiest, has a trace of burnt-coffee, despite his similar-smelling farts.
Attending to the smells and scents around us is necessary to become nature’s full partner.
