Zoom fake

“Office” attire in our work-from-home pandemic is s-o-o-o cliché. Yet here we are.

We’d blown our deadline and the editor was threatening to hurt innocent words.

Still, we also have a higher purpose – exposing the 30-Second Read chief writer’s deceit. You’ll thank us.

Back in March, the chief’s university employer closed campus and sent faculty and students away to teach and study from home. They all mastered Zoom.

But the chief, like any scoundrel, took advantage. He’d previously worn business casual, even occasionally a tie. At home, he adopted the Zoom costume: biz-casual shirts with shorts, sneakers and – gasp – ankle-length white socks.

About three weeks ago, he returned to an actual classroom. Out came slacks and black dress socks.

It wouldn’t last. Monday, the chief’s employer ordered him home because, according to contact tracing, he’d spent time near someone who’d tested positive for Covid-19. Work-from-home attire returned.

Frankly, it’s dishonest and deceitful, as the accompanying photo shows. An Oxford button-down shirt and tie up top, for students watching in Zoom? But below, sneakers and ankle socks!

What a Zoom fake.
