Wearing a face mask in a pandemic is polite, easy, cheap and effective. And we already sacrifice for the greater good in so many ways, such as:
Waiting for a green light and a break in traffic before turning left.
Parking in a non-disability spot except with a blue tag.
Leaving a bar after last call.
Driving while sober after leaving that bar, or calling a ride-share driver or friend.
Putting house waste in a bin at the curb instead of on a neighbor’s porch.
Applying for approval to build a hog confinement barn in a residential neighborhood.
Wearing clothing in public.
Refraining from stopping cars on a public street to extract a toll for personal use.
Liberty is not a license for individual action without limit. Sharing space with other humans in an office, neighborhood, city, nation or planet requires a willing suspension of some freedoms.
Like going face mask commando. It’s such a tiny freedom – and a selfish, reckless and deadly freedom. Because when invoked, it may harm and even kill fellow humans.
Please wear a face mask.
