‘Gimme a Break’

It was a dark and stormy night when someone snatched the Kit Kats.

Swiss chocolatier Nestle reported 413,793 of the crunchy waffle bars vanished last month. The 12 tons of chocolate – and the truck hauling them – disappeared en route to Poland from a production plant in Italy.

It must have happened something like this: A desolate rural road, a driving rain, a lone figure steps out of the inky darkness to hail the approaching Kit Kat truck.

Our driver, a cheerful 50-something chap with an eccellente driving record, brakes, thinking he can assist the stranded traveler. But, alas, it’s a trappola!

“Gimme a break,” he pleads, but the bandits grab the goodies. The driver and the crispy cargo are whisked away into the night.

Now, Nestle is left with a Kit Kat deficit in its European markets, warning candy lovers across the continent that the bars “could enter unofficial sales channels.”

The stolen candy may be identified by its batch numbers, if you’re willing to do some sleuthing. No word if there’s a reward offered. But wouldn’t that be sweet?
